Since all the different variations of a floating pearl necklace can’t be discussed here, we will only cover creating a single stranded version. Keep in mind though, by simply twisting strands together with a few simple crimp beads, and wire twists, it is quite easy to create a floating pearl necklace with multiple strands.
Creating a single strand floating pearl necklace is extremely simple. Once you have an idea of what you want your necklace to look like, the first step is to take your 24 gauge wire and cut it to approximately twice the length of the necklace to be made. Next, place your first pearl at the location on the strand that you desire. While holding the pearl in place, string two crimp beads on either side of it.
Next, take your crimping pliers and slowly add pressure to the crimp beads until they pinch the wire surrounding the pearl, locking it in place. Repeat this process at each of the chosen pearl locations until you have produced the desired effect. Next, attach a clasp by stringing and twisting the wire through the loop on the clasp. Finally, trim off the excess wire, file down the rough edges, and you’re done! See? Creating your own floating pearl necklace is that easy.
