What to expect when your newborn child has a hearing impairment
It’s not easy as a parent to know what is best for your child. But it’s especially difficult when those decisions involve things that you might know very little about. When you first learned that your child was not able to fully hear, you might have known hardly anything about impaired hearing. But as you hope to help your child develop as fully as possible, it is important to continue to do all the research you can and to work with your audiologist in order to fully assess your child’s needs.
First of all, it’s important to realize that especially for children, hearing evaluations will need to be done often. At first, since a newborn baby cannot provide feedback as to how well their hearing instruments are working, it is critical that hearing solutions for children meet their unique needs. As your little one can respond to differing types of hearing tests, it will enable practicioners to find out the exact degree to which the child can hear, and can adjust the hearing aids accordingly. As the child grows, their ear grows too, which means that you can expect that the earmold in their hearing aid will also need to be changed often.
But no matter what kind of treatments you decide is best for your child to receive, just like any other baby, the more love and support you give your child, the more that child will be able to develop and blossom into a healthy, wonderful little person.
